Why would you ever write a piece for a stone dead instrument like the harpshicord ? With a terrible sound, no dynamics and and a bad excuse for not being a piano? Most likely because a very charming and talanted player ask you to do it... That was my case. I met Thora Johansen in Amsterdam and she convinsed me after some Icelandic drinks to actually spend some time writing for the harpsichord. My revendge for this was to write a overly demanding piece where she not only would play the harpsichord but also a Yamaha DX7 synthizeiser at the same time. How she pulled it off I am yet to understand...
